As a rule of thumb, plastic hoses have a maximum temperature of 60 °C. Depending on the rubber compound and construction, rubber hoses can handle considerably higher temperatures. An EPDM steam hose such as the FLOWINTUBE® VAPORTOR-18-D, for example, is suitable for saturated steam at up to 210 °C continuous.
Take into account not only the temperature of the medium, but also the ambient temperature and direct sunlight. Experience has shown that with plastic hoses exposed to extreme heat and full sun for long periods, such as in the Middle East, the inner and outer layers could separate due to overheating. Such effects are difficult to predict in advance. At high ambient temperatures, rubber is therefore the better choice.
